Dewald Brevis, the young South African batsman, has generated considerable buzz recently. His performance in the three-match T20 series against Australia, which captivated fans, is a major talking point. Ravi Ashwin’s comment that CSK overspent to secure him for IPL 2025 sparked controversy. CSK responded by stating Brevis was bought at his base price of ₹75 lakh. Ashwin has now issued another statement, clarifying his position.
On his YouTube channel, Ashwin noted, “I prefer to focus on my cricket than engage in social media discussions. We create videos to share our views. People watch and understand, and that’s fine. The issue arises when those who don’t watch the videos misinterpret our statements. In today’s fast-paced news cycle, headlines often drive narratives.”
He added, “CSK has made a great move with Brevis’ batting form. The decision to sign him was excellent. He’s hitting aggressively, smashing big sixes. Brevis can be very threatening against spin bowlers.”
During the IPL 2025, CSK brought Brevis into the squad to replace the injured Gurjapneet Singh. Brevis remained unsold in the mega auction. However, CSK recruited him midway through the season. Brevis responded with 225 runs in 6 matches, with a strike rate of 180 and an average of 37.50, including two half-centuries, his highest score being 57.
In the recent T20 series between Australia and South Africa, Brevis emerged as the top run-scorer. He amassed 180 runs in three matches with an average of 90, including a century and a half-century. His highest score in the series was 125.
