Deepti Sharma emerged as the auction’s top earner, with UP Warriorz retaining her for ₹3.20 crore via an RTM bid. Mumbai Indians made a substantial investment in New Zealand all-rounder Amelia Kerr, securing her services for ₹3 crore. In a stunning turn of events, Australian skipper Alyssa Healy, with a reserve price of ₹50 lakh, went through the auction unsold, a major talking point of the evening. The auction showcased a blend of marquee signings and overlooked talent.
The 2026 WPL season is now on the horizon, with tentative start dates of January 8 or 9. Mumbai and Baroda have been chosen as the host cities. The D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, a venue with recent celebratory significance for Indian cricket, will host matches. Baroda’s Kotambi Stadium is also confirmed as a venue, anticipating a busy schedule that includes an ODI between India and New Zealand shortly after the WPL commences.
