The names of Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre are buzzing in Indian cricket circles as potential future stars. Both players are currently in Australia, striving to bring victory to the Under-19 team. The key discussion revolves around which player is more likely to make their debut in the senior Indian team first. Ambati Rayudu, a veteran with 61 international appearances, offered his insights to settle the debate.
In a recent podcast, Shubankar Mishra asked Rayudu to choose between Suryavanshi and Mhatre for a place in the Indian team. Rayudu, at 39, opted for Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and he provided his reasoning.
Rayudu cited Suryavanshi’s impressive performance at a young age, suggesting he would be the first to break into the Indian team. He lauded Suryavanshi’s bat swing, drawing comparisons to Lara, and urged him to concentrate on his game, cautioning against excessive advice from others.
Looking at their records, Suryavanshi is set to play his ninth Under-19 ODI during the Australian tour. In his previous eight matches, he has accumulated 432 runs at an average of 54, including a notable innings of 143. In Under-19 Tests, Suryavanshi has amassed 198 runs across four innings. His strike rate in U19 T20s is also noteworthy.
In contrast, Ayush Mhatre has scored 82 runs in his 8 U19 ODIs for India. In the Test format, he has scored 340 runs in 2 innings, averaging 85.
