Former cricketer Ajit Agarkar, who entered the international cricket scene in 1998, married Fatima Ghadially, a Muslim woman, in 2002, overcoming familial and societal hurdles. The couple’s relationship began when Agarkar met Fatima through her brother, who was a friend. Fatima was a management consultant at the time, often attending cricket matches with her brother. Their relationship blossomed, leading to a three-year dating period before they decided to marry.
The families initially disapproved due to their different religious backgrounds; Agarkar is a Marathi Brahmin, and Fatima is Muslim. However, after persistent efforts, they gained the support of their families and tied the knot. Fatima is approximately two years older than her husband. The couple has a son, Raj, and their marriage has been going strong for 23 years. Agarkar was also part of the 2007 T20I World Cup-winning team.
Agarkar’s cricketing achievements include a strong performance with both bat and ball. In his career, which began in 1998, he played 26 Test matches, securing 58 wickets and scoring 571 runs, including a century. In 191 One Day Internationals, he took 288 wickets and scored 1269 runs with three half-centuries. He also took 3 wickets in 4 T20I matches.
