The Adani International School in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, organized the ISSO National Games Chess Competition 2025, a two-day event showcasing strategic gameplay and sportsmanship. The competition saw participation from over 370 students representing more than 80 schools from across 10 Indian states. With over 650 attendees, including parents, coaches, and supporters, the event fostered a strong sense of community.
The tournament was divided into four age categories: Under 11, Under 14, Under 17, and Under 19. Players displayed their strategic prowess and composure throughout the intense competition.
Namrata Adani, promoter of Adani International School, attended the opening ceremony and interacted with the students. Bhavesh Patel, former secretary of the Gujarat State Chess Association, and Grandmaster Ankit Rajpara were also present to encourage the young players.
Indian chess is currently experiencing a resurgence, with young talents like R. Praggnanandhaa and D. Gukesh challenging the world’s top players. This success at the international level is rooted in the strong school-level chess ecosystem, where tournaments like this one at Adani International School offer crucial experience to young players.
By providing such platforms, India is cultivating a system that prepares players for global tournaments, nurturing future champions from schools nationwide.
The event reinforced Adani International School’s commitment to integrating sports with intellectual development. Awards were presented in all categories at the closing ceremony.
