Virender Sehwag’s son, Aaryavir, has finally made his debut in the Delhi Premier League (DPL) after a period of waiting. Playing for Central Delhi Kings, this marked Aaryavir’s first appearance in a league setting. True to form, the younger Sehwag began explosively, mirroring the style of the senior Sehwag throughout his career. Aaryavir’s performance seemed to underscore the influence of his father’s guidance, which he shared after the game.
The 17-year-old Aaryavir Sehwag kicked off his career in the DPL 2025, representing Central Delhi Kings. He got his chance to play against East Delhi Riders and, like his father, opened the innings. Those who watched Virender Sehwag play knew his aggressive approach from the outset. Aaryavir demonstrated a similar attacking intent.
Aaryavir started his innings by scoring a single in the first over and then followed up with two consecutive boundaries against the fast bowler Navdeep Saini. He later repeated this feat, hitting two more boundaries against a spinner. The right-handed batsman left his mark in his first match. He didn’t manage a long innings, but his 22 runs from 16 balls showed that he can bat explosively like his father and take on any bowler.
When asked about his father’s advice before the debut, Aaryavir shared the three key points Virender Sehwag had emphasized. Aaryavir stated, “Not much was discussed with dad, he just told me to play freely, not to overthink, and to play my shots.”
It’s safe to say that Aaryavir effectively implemented his father’s advice on the field, demonstrating his potential in a short but impactful innings. Aaryavir replaced Yash Dhull in the team, who was in excellent form. Due to his selection in the Duleep Trophy, Dhull had to leave the tournament mid-way. Central Delhi Kings are now set for Qualifier-1. Based on Aaryavir’s performance in his debut, he is likely to feature in the upcoming crucial match.
