Raipur Railway Division will now run trains with Solar Power Energy. This will be done with the help of Railway Energy Management Company Limited (REMCL). A 50 MW solar power plant is being set up at Bhilai in Charoda with the help of a Chennai based company. 122 hectares of land has been leased to the Chennai-based company for 27 years. The company has taken two years to do this work. Solar Power Energy is expected to run trains from March 2021.

It is to be known that the company will maintain a 50 MW solar power plant for 25 years. The energy generated from this will be used as a traction by the Raipur Railway Division for railway operations. In future, Raipur Railway Division will operate some of its trains with solar power energy. This will save electric energy and promote green energy. It will also prove to be an important step in environmental protection.

At present, the cost of electricity is about Rs 4.50 to 4.75 per unit. The setting up of a solar power plant will cost Rs 2.09 per unit, resulting in a gain of about Rs 1.70. This will save an estimated 360 crore revenue in a year. About 2.5 lakh units of electricity will be provided daily by the solar power plant.
