Nawaz Sharif In Pakistan: Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Nawaz Sharif returned to his country from London on Saturday after a long gap of four years. As soon as he reached Pakistan, Sharif’s party ‘Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’ (PML-N) gave him a warm welcome. July 6, 2018: Nawaz Sharif was sentenced to 10 years in jail after being convicted in the Avenfield case. He was convicted in absentia, as he was in London at the time caring for his ill wife.
July 13, 2018: Nawaz and his daughter Maryam Nawaz were arrested upon reaching Lahore from London.
11 September 2018: Sharif’s wife Kulsoom Nawaz died in London.
September 12, 2018: Sharif, his daughter and son-in-law granted parole, reach Lahore to attend Kulsoom’s funeral.
19 September 2018: Sharif family got a big relief. Islamabad High Court ordered the release of Nawaz, Maryam and Captain Muhammad Safdar while temporarily suspending the sentence given in the corruption case.
24 December 2018: Nawaz was sentenced to seven years in jail and fined Rs 1.5 billion in the Al-Azizia sugar mill case.
January 1, 2019: PML-N supremo challenges the verdict of Al Azizia case in Islamabad High Court.
25 October 2019: Nawaz was diagnosed with ‘Immune System Disorder’ and doctors advised him to go abroad for treatment.
26 October 2019: Nawaz got interim bail in the sugar mill case on medical grounds.
29 October 2019: Islamabad High Court granted eight weeks bail to Nawaz in the Al-Azizia case in view of his deteriorating health.
13 November 2019: The then government announced permission for Nawaz to travel abroad for a period of four weeks for medical treatment.
19 November 2019: Nawaz left for London from Lahore via air ambulance.
September 1, 2020: The High Court ordered the former Prime Minister to surrender and appear in the court, citing that his bail would expire on February 27.
September 12, 2023: Shehbaz Sharif revealed the date of October 21 for Nawaz’s return to Pakistan to lead the party’s political campaign.
October 19, 2023: Nawaz is granted protection from arrest bail in two corruption cases while a court suspends his arrest warrant in the Toshakhana case, removing all legal hurdles for his easy return to the country.
October 21, 2023: Nawaz returned to Pakistan.
