Chhattisgarh election date: Recently, the Election Commission announced the dates of the assembly elections to be held in five states. However, later the voting date of Rajasthan elections was changed. After Rajasthan, there is a demand to change the election date in Madhya Pradesh also. In such a situation, now Chhattisgarh Deputy CM and veteran Congress leader TS Singh Deo has also raised the demand for changing the date. He has also given arguments for this.

What are the arguments of Congress?

Elections are to be held in Chhattisgarh in two phases on 7 and 17 November. There is a Congress government in the state. Demanding change in the voting date, TS Singh Deo said, ‘The Election Commission wants 100 per cent voting… There are many festivals like Dussehra, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Chhath, etc. during the election dates. Everyone in the country knows about these social festivals. If the Election Commission wants, they still have time to adjust the date. The Election Commission wants 100% voting… but is it possible to get 100% voting in this situation? If not, the Election Commission will have to decide whether they want to make any changes or not.

Demand raised in Madhya Pradesh also

Bhojpuri Ekta Manch in Madhya Pradesh wrote a letter to the Election Commission to change the date. Bhojpuri Ekta Manch argued that voting is to be held in the state on 17th November but Chhath will be celebrated from 17th to 20th November. The population of Bhojpuri community in the entire state is around 35 lakh. This may affect the voting percentage. For this reason the election dates should be changed.

It is noteworthy that in Rajasthan, voting is now to be held on 25th November instead of 23rd November. This is because large scale weddings and social functions are to be held in the state during this period. In such a situation, demand for changing the election date has started rising in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh also.
