Mr. Mansukh Mandavia called for developing deep house tourism opportunities in IndiaJuly 7, 2020
The Union Minister of State (Independent Charge ) for Shipping (Shipping), Mr. Mansukh Mandavia, held a high-level meeting today to consider the development of the existing 194 lamphouses across the country as major tourist destinations. Mr. Mandavia said that this will give a boost to tourism activities in the areas around Deepgriha and will also give people an opportunity to learn about the rich history of Deepgriha.
The officials presented a detailed action plan to develop the lamp houses as tourist destinations. Mr. Mandavia advised the authorities to identify the lamp houses which are more than 100 years old. He has emphasized on building a museum to show the history of the Deepgriha and their functioning , equipment used in their operation, etc.
According to the Master Development Plan Deepgrihon , museums as well as water bodies , water creatures house (aquarium) , will create a major attraction such as playground and garden for children.
The minister reviewed progress to develop tourism activities at Gopnath , Dwarka and Veraval Deepgriha in Gujarat.
The minister instructed the officer to prepare a detailed presentation on the project at the earliest. The meeting was attended by the Secretary , Ministry of Shipping and Director General , Directorate General of Lighthouses and Lightships and other stakeholders.
