Irrigation Development Authority to be constituted in Chhattisgarh : Chief Minister’s order :December 30, 2019
To provide maximum benefit of irrigation facilities to farmers of Chhattisgarh, State Government will constitute Irrigation Development Authority. Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel has given orders for formation of irrigation development authority. It is noteworthy that presently, the irrigation capacity in state is 10.38 lakh hectare, which is 18% of the total fertile land. Chief Minister said that development of irrigation facilities is one of the top priorities of State Government. For speedy development of irrigation resources, it is necessary to work on mission mode, for which State Government has decided to constitute Chhattisgarh Irrigation Authority.
Chief Minister said that the Chhattisgarh Infrastructure Development Corporation (CSIDC) constituted earlier is not serving the purpose as per expectations at present. Hence, CSIDC will be transformed into Irrigation Development Authority.
It is noteworthy that Chhattisgarh has nearly 57 lakh hectares of agricultural land. In year 2004, the developed irrigation capacity in state was 15 lakh 51 thousand hectares and actual irrigation capacity was 10 lakh 22 thousand hectares, whereas in year 2018, the developed irrigation capacity was 20 lakh 88 thousand and actual irrigation capacity was 10 lakh 38 thousand hectare. Chhattisgarh Irrigation Development Authority would chalk out action plan for expansion of actual irrigation capacity and development of new irrigation schemes in state so that farmers of the state may get maximum benefits from the same.
