Former Cricket Board of India (BCCI) president Ranbir Singh Mahendra lamented, ‘This is a big loss for me in the game of cricket and in my personal capacity. He was one of the best left-arm spinners in this country. Even after retiring, he made valuable contribution in this game.

This left-arm spinner used to play in the era when Bishan Singh Bedi was an important part of the Indian team. Because of this, he never got a place in the Indian team. Goyal took 750 wickets in 157 matches in first class cricket for Haryana and North Zone.

He was Bedi, who handed him the CK Nayudu lifetime achievement award at the BCCI Awards ceremony. He played first class cricket for 44 years. Goyal was also included in the players whom Sunil Gavaskar gave in his book ‘Idols’.

Rajinder Goyal holds the record for taking the most wickets in the Ranji Trophy. He took a total of 637 wickets in this prestigious tournament during 1958 / 59-1984 / 85. s. Venkataraghavan is second with 531 wickets.
