The Uttar Pradesh government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, has taken immediate action in response to the tragic death of a young man in an uncovered drain in Lucknow. The government has suspended a junior engineer and issued a show cause notice to an assistant engineer. In addition to these disciplinary measures, the government has committed to providing financial assistance of Rs 9 lakh to the victim’s family. The Chief Minister has also ordered the registration of an FIR against the construction agency, underscoring the government’s resolve to address administrative lapses. The incident occurred during heavy rainfall when the victim, a daily wage worker, accidentally fell into the open drain. Authorities recovered the body from the confluence of the Gomti River and a drain after a search. The DCP of Lucknow West confirmed that an FIR has also been lodged against the ward councillor and the contractor of the cleaning firm.
