Parliament opens its doors today for the Winter Session 2025, a period anticipated to be dynamic with crucial legislation and pointed debates. Running from December 1 to December 19, 2025, the session comprises 15 sittings designed to tackle a packed agenda. The Business Advisory Committee has meticulously planned the allocation of time for various bills and discussions. Among the key legislative items are the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (GST) Bill and Central Excise Bills, which will each receive three hours of debate. A three-hour discussion is also scheduled for the Supplementary Demand for Grants. Notably, the government has proposed an extensive 10-hour debate concerning the ‘Vande Mataram’ issue, awaiting the Speaker’s decision. The session will also see the introduction of various bills, with some not having undergone thorough Standing Committee scrutiny. The Health Security and National Security Cess Bill has received presidential recommendation for introduction. On the opposition’s front, a range of critical issues are expected to be raised, including the Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls, national security challenges, environmental concerns regarding air pollution, the controversial new labor codes, and pressing farmers’ demands. Opposition leaders are set to convene to coordinate their parliamentary strategy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is slated to provide media with an opening address at 10 AM today at Parliament House.
