The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a “Red Colour Warning” for numerous areas, anticipating extremely heavy rainfall (≥21 cm) this week. The warning specifically targets Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, and Madhya Pradesh. The IMD clarifies that this “Red Colour Warning” does not equate to a “Red Alert.”
On July 18, several areas within Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Kerala are likely to experience very heavy rainfall. Simultaneously, Rajasthan and South Interior Karnataka can expect heavy rains. Kerala is also under a torrential rain forecast for July 19 and 20.
From July 18 to 23, heavy to very heavy rains are predicted for Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh in North India. Uttarakhand is expected to experience particularly intense rainfall between July 18 and 20, and again from July 23.
East and Central India will also see active weather, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms likely in Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The Konkan coast, Goa, and Maharashtra can expect continuous rainfall. Strong winds, ranging from 40 to 50 kmph, are likely to affect peninsular regions of South India over the next five days.
