Following a successful voter roll revision in Bihar, the Election Commission (EC) has initiated the second phase of its Special Intensive Revision (SIR) program, targeting 12 states and Union Territories. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar announced that this initiative is designed to guarantee that no eligible citizen is omitted from the electoral rolls and that no ineligible person is included.
The revision will cover West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Puducherry, Andaman and Nicobar, and Lakshadweep. Electoral rolls in these jurisdictions will be frozen by midnight, after which voters will be provided with distinct enumeration forms to ensure all details are accurate. This comprehensive exercise will impact around 51 crore voters across numerous Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies.
CEC Kumar emphasized the importance of voter participation and accuracy, noting that the process in Bihar concluded with a final list of approximately 7.42 crore electors. Election officials across all affected states and UTs have been directed to convene meetings with political parties to explain the SIR process. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct household visits thrice to facilitate the revision, with online form submission now available for voters who have migrated. This marks a significant step in maintaining pristine electoral data.
