In a significant expansion of India’s high-speed rail network, Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off four new Vande Bharat Express trains from Varanasi. This initiative is poised to enhance connectivity across the country, serving critical routes such as Banaras to Khajuraho, Lucknow to Saharanpur, Firozpur to Delhi, and Ernakulam to Bengaluru. These state-of-the-art trains are designed to offer passengers a superior travel experience with modern amenities and considerably shorter journey durations.
Speaking at the launch, PM Modi underscored the inextricable link between robust infrastructure and a nation’s development trajectory. He highlighted how enhanced connectivity acts as a catalyst for economic prosperity, transforming cities and facilitating the smooth flow of commerce. The new Vande Bharat services are anticipated to significantly boost regional mobility, encourage heritage tourism, and stimulate local economies by connecting important cities and pilgrimage sites.
The Banaras–Khajuraho Vande Bharat will dramatically cut travel time between these heritage destinations, offering pilgrims and tourists easier access. The Lucknow–Saharanpur route aims to improve intercity travel within Uttar Pradesh, benefiting numerous communities along its path. In Punjab, the Firozpur–Delhi service is set to become the fastest link to the capital, expected to drive economic opportunities in border areas. Southern India will see improved connectivity between Ernakulam and Bengaluru, fostering professional and tourist travel.
The Prime Minister also noted the broader impact of modern rail projects like Vande Bharat, Namo Bharat, and Amrit Bharat in ushering in a new generation of railway services. The event in Varanasi was marked by public interaction and comprehensive security arrangements, reflecting the importance of these new transport links.
