On August 5, 2025, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami swiftly responded to the disaster in the Dharali-Uttarkashi and Harsil regions, directing immediate relief and rescue operations. He canceled his visit to Andhra Pradesh to personally monitor the situation, arriving at the State Emergency Operations Center in Dehradun on the evening of August 5th. Discussions were held with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who pledged federal support.
Over 130 people were rescued by the evening of August 5th. The Chief Minister instructed that proper arrangements for food and shelter be made for the affected individuals. Senior military officials were asked to take appropriate action regarding the formation of a lake in the Harsil area. Instructions were also issued to airlift the affected people and to utilize the Air Force’s MI-17 helicopters for rescue operations.
