Under the Green Highways Policy, the NHAI is building a 380-kilometer Greenfield Expressway in Uttar Pradesh. The Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway aims to reinforce the state’s road network by connecting Noida, Ghaziabad, and Kanpur. The travel time between these major industrial hubs is estimated to drop to about five hours once the project is finalized.
The expressway, stretching 380 km, will navigate through nine districts of Uttar Pradesh. The initial construction involves a four-lane configuration, with provisions for expansion to six lanes as traffic demands increase. The project is being designed with environmental considerations in mind and is scheduled for completion by 2026.
The expressway will pass through Ghaziabad, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Kasganj, Farrukhabad, Kannauj, Unnao, and Kanpur districts.
Reports indicate that NHAI is exploring the possibility of extending this expressway to Jewar Airport in Noida. This expansion would enhance regional connectivity. The expressway’s southern end will link to the Kanpur-Lucknow Expressway (62.7 km), and the northern end will connect to National Highway 9. The travel time from Ghaziabad to Kanpur will be reduced by approximately three hours.
This initiative is expected to bolster regional trade, while also reducing congestion on existing highways. This modern route will greatly benefit local businesses, transport companies, and daily commuters. It is expected to accelerate social and economic development in the state.
