The United States has taken action against The Resistance Front (TRF), a front for the Pakistan-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), designating it as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT). The move comes after the TRF claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar praised the US decision, viewing it as a strong step in the collaboration between India and the US in counter-terrorism efforts.
The US State Department’s statement noted that the Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, was the deadliest civilian attack in India since the 2008 Mumbai attacks, which were also carried out by LeT. The US action highlights the commitment to fighting terrorism globally. TRF’s addition to the LeT designations, under US anti-terrorism laws, signals a firm stance against terrorist groups. This decision reflects the ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and underscores the importance of international cooperation.
