Following controversial statements by Uttar Pradesh Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar, ABVP members protested outside his Lucknow residence, leading to clashes with police. The demonstration was a response to a police baton charge at the Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University (SRMU) in Barabanki and the minister’s subsequent comments.
The protesters voiced their discontent with the minister and the government, resulting in a tense confrontation with law enforcement. Several activists were detained and taken to Eco Garden as a result of the clash, creating a tense atmosphere.
The protests were triggered by a demonstration against the university’s LLB program, which allegedly lacked Bar Council of India (BCI) recognition. The initial protest saw police using batons, injuring numerous students. Students have accused the police of excessive force and collusion with university officials.
Minister Rajbhar’s remarks, which allegedly supported the police action against the students, further escalated the situation. ABVP activists responded by demonstrating outside the minister’s residence, burning effigies, and chanting slogans.
ABVP representatives have called for strict action against those responsible for the incidents at the university, vowing to continue their protest until justice is served. The police presence intensified as students attempted to enter the minister’s residence, leading to physical altercations and arrests.
The incident has drawn criticism from opposition parties, with the Samajwadi Party and NSUI staging protests in support of ABVP. Opposition leaders have called for compensation and proper medical care for the injured students. The Chief Minister has ordered investigations and personnel changes following the events.
ABVP and other student organizations are demanding the dismissal of the university’s Vice Chancellor, reinstatement of expelled students, and clarification on the law degree’s recognition status. They have warned of further escalation if their demands are unmet.
