Residents of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra will need to find alternative documents, as Aadhaar cards have been officially disqualified as proof of birth. The UP Planning Department has issued a directive to all state departments, clarifying that Aadhaar cannot substitute for a birth certificate due to its inherent limitations. Meanwhile, Maharashtra is taking a firm stance against fraudulent documentation. The state will no longer accept Aadhaar for the issuance of delayed birth certificates. Moreover, all birth records established solely through Aadhaar post the 2023 registration act amendments are subject to cancellation. This decisive action by the Maharashtra government, spearheaded by Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule, is designed to prevent the proliferation of fake birth and death certificates used for illegal purposes. Officials involved in issuing questionable certificates are also facing scrutiny and potential action.
