An extensive investigation spanning Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, and Bihar has led to the resolution of a heart-wrenching honour killing case. Authorities have apprehended two brothers of a young woman for the alleged murder of her and her husband, whose bodies were found in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh. The couple, originally from Bihar, had defied family opposition to marry.
The victims, 19-year-old woman and her 22-year-old husband Dukhan Shaw, eloped in June and relocated to Valsad, Gujarat. Their disappearance later that year triggered a missing person report filed by Shaw’s brother, who pointed fingers at the woman’s family. The case became a multi-state puzzle when a partially identified body was discovered in Sonbhadra, Uttar Pradesh.
The complexity of the Sonbhadra region, bordering multiple states, initially hampered identification. However, a crucial link was forged when Gujarat police sought assistance from Sonbhadra counterparts regarding the missing couple. This collaboration allowed investigators to reconstruct the couple’s final journey, which reportedly led them from Gujarat towards Bihar via Uttar Pradesh.
Key evidence, including a photograph of the deceased woman, enabled Shaw’s family to identify her. Subsequent verification with Bihar police confirmed the woman’s family’s strong disapproval of the marriage, solidifying the honour killing motive. The two arrested brothers, Munna Kumar and Rahul alias Siddharth, have reportedly confessed to the crime and led police to the husband’s remains. Efforts continue to locate the remaining two brothers, Mukesh and Rakesh.
