The attainment of India’s independence was a result of the unwavering dedication and sacrifices of numerous individuals. Among them, Ram Prasad Bismil stands out as a symbol of courage and patriotism. Today, on June 11, 2025, we commemorate his 127th birth anniversary, celebrating the life of this renowned freedom fighter, poet, and revolutionary. His life, cut short by the British, continues to ignite the spirit of patriotism in the hearts of many.
Ram Prasad Bismil was born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on June 11, 1897, to Murlidhar and Moolmati. His early life was marked by a profound love for literature and a steadfast commitment to upholding justice.
From a young age, Bismil became actively involved in the freedom struggle, opposing the British regime. He joined the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA), a revolutionary group determined to liberate India from British rule. A significant event in his life was the Kakori Conspiracy, where he and fellow revolutionaries seized funds from the British government to support their independence efforts.
Following the conspiracy, he was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death. He was executed on December 19, 1927, at the age of 30. In addition to his revolutionary activities, Bismil was a gifted poet, expressing his love for the nation through his verses.
Among his most famous patriotic poems are “Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna,” “Mera Janm Hi Mar Mitne Ke Liye Hua Hai,” and “Man Ki Lahar.” The stirring lines of “Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamare dil mein hai, dekhna hai zor kitna baazu-e-qatil mein hai” became an anthem for young freedom fighters.
