The Indian textile industry, under the leadership of Giriraj Singh and guided by Prime Minister Modi’s vision, is making strides toward India’s 2047 development goals. The sector’s value has surged from $112 billion in 2014 to $179 billion, accompanied by an expansion in employment opportunities, supporting over 46 million livelihoods. The technical textiles segment is experiencing rapid growth, now valued at $26 billion, with expectations of reaching $40-45 billion by 2030. India’s textile exports span over 200 countries, with ready-made garments playing a vital role. The Tirupur cluster’s 20% growth and the rise in carpet exports highlight the industry’s robust performance. Recent government decisions, including an extension of import duty exemptions on cotton and the launch of a mobile app for cotton farmers, demonstrate commitment to the sector. Furthermore, the Ministry of Textiles is actively promoting exports by modifying schemes and opening application windows. The focus is on expanding into new markets, with a strategic shift from domestic demand to global value chains, aiming for substantial export growth and market penetration.
