Chief Minister MK Stalin of Tamil Nadu has criticized the 130th Constitutional Amendment Bill, specifically its provision for removing an elected Chief Minister after a 30-day arrest. He characterized the bill as a violation of the Constitution and its democratic framework. Stalin called for all democratic forces to oppose this measure, viewing it as a move towards dictatorship. He emphasized the bill’s potential to silence rivals and undermine states’ rights, as detailed in his social media statement. Stalin alleged that the Union BJP Government aims to weaken the Constitution and establish a dictatorship. He also suggested that the bill is an attempt to distract from questions about the BJP government’s legitimacy following allegations of electoral misconduct. According to Stalin, the bill would allow the BJP to fabricate charges against political opponents, leading to their removal from office without trial or conviction. He predicted that the courts would overturn the unconstitutional amendment. Stalin stated that the bill is a strategy to intimidate regional parties, issuing a warning about the nation potentially heading towards authoritarianism.
