In a landmark decision, the Supreme Court has addressed the matter of incarcerated individuals. The court has ordered the release of Sukhdev Yadav, one of the convicts in the Nitish Katara murder case, who has completed his sentence. The court instructed all states and union territories to release prisoners who have served their time without any further delay. The court’s directive includes a provision for identifying and releasing any individual who has been held in custody for a period exceeding their sentence.
The Supreme Court explicitly stated that any such convict, not required in any other ongoing cases, should be released forthwith.
