A protest by hundreds of students at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on Sunday against alleged irregularities in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) examinations led to a clash with police and subsequent detentions. The Congress party has come out strongly against the government, accusing it of using police force to quell the demonstration and assault the students involved. According to the Congress, the Modi government’s actions, including sending police at night, were an attempt to suppress the students’ movement. The party condemned the government’s actions, arguing that the students had been seeking reforms in the SSC for several months. The students’ demands were reportedly ignored, leading them to stage a demonstration in Delhi. The Congress stated that the government should address the students’ concerns, which they deemed valid. Students reported the police attempted to remove them by force from the protest site. The demonstration, organized under the banner of the Student Maha Andolan, gained momentum online, with visuals showing a large crowd at the protest venue. Protesters raised concerns about mismanagement in recruitment and a lack of transparency in the examination process. Police officials, however, have denied any misconduct, stating that a number of protesters were detained for refusing to leave the site after repeated requests.
