The Special Investigation Team (SIT) arrested YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) MP PV Mithun Reddy, representing Rajampet, on Saturday. The arrest occurred after prolonged interrogation concerning the multi-crore liquor scam. Following the arrest, SIT officials informed Mr. Reddy’s family about the development. The arrest was anticipated, given the Supreme Court’s denial of his anticipatory bail on July 18. The total number of arrests in this case has reached 12.
The investigating agency alleges that Mithun Reddy was a key participant in the large-scale scam. They claim he, along with other suspects, misused funds collected from distillery companies. During his second appearance before the SIT on Saturday, he was questioned on various aspects, including the establishment of new distillery businesses, the collection of commissions from liquor traders, the deposit of those funds into his companies, and his associations with other defendants. Mr. Reddy has refuted the charges, alleging that the case is politically driven and that he has been falsely accused. He stated that he would fight the case legally. Earlier in the day, YSRCP MP PV Mithun Reddy arrived in Vijayawada and appeared before the SIT, providing testimony related to the case involving Dhanunjay Reddy, Krishna Mohan Reddy, and Balaji Govindappa, who were recently arrested. The YSRCP has accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of abusing his power and targeting leaders close to party president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy in response to the developments.
