Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sanjay Singh has condemned the Narendra Modi government for arresting Sonam Wangchuk, a Ladakh activist, who is peacefully campaigning for full statehood for Ladakh-Kargil and for rights related to education, health, and employment. Singh accused the government of employing dictatorial methods, comparing the arrest to Hitler’s regime, and warned that such actions could provoke significant public opposition.
Singh, in a video message, stated that Sonam Wangchuk, a dedicated patriot, has been arrested, while the Modi government is demonstrating its dictatorial tendencies. He said that Wangchuk has spent his life helping children who are considered failures by the system. Singh emphasized that Wangchuk’s demands include education, employment, land, health, and granting full statehood to Ladakh-Kargil. Singh further highlighted that Wangchuk has been peacefully protesting, including a hunger strike and a padyatra to Delhi, requesting Prime Minister Narendra Modi to address the concerns of the people of Ladakh. He questioned the government’s actions against a person advocating for peace and the rights of Ladakhis.
Singh criticized the government’s decision to label Wangchuk as ‘anti-national’ and impose the National Security Act (NSA) on him, while the activist had been promoting peace. He reminded Prime Minister Modi of the patriotism of the people of Ladakh, who have always supported the nation, opposed Chinese incursions, and stood with the Indian Army and the Government of India. AAP, Singh declared, stands with Sonam Wangchuk, the people of Ladakh, and their demands.
