YEIDA has approved a substantial solar energy project in Yamuna City, with SAEL Solar P6 Private Limited leading the initiative. The project, costing approximately Rs 8,200 crore, involves the establishment of a solar plant on 200 acres of land in Sector 8 near the Yamuna Expressway. The facility will have a capacity to produce 5 GW of solar cells and 5 GW of solar modules. SAEL Industries Limited, the parent company, is a leading company in renewable energy. With the new unit, the company’s total solar module production capacity will increase to 8.5 GW. The solar cells will be manufactured using advanced TOPCon technology and then integrated into solar panels on-site. YEIDA has classified the project as ‘Ultra Mega’ due to its investment scale, making it one of the largest in the region. The project is entirely a greenfield venture. The company received a Letter of Intent from YEIDA in February and secured approval from ‘Invest UP’ in July. Land allocation is currently in progress, with the transfer of 200 acres expected this month. SAEL representatives have already had discussions with YEIDA concerning documentation. The project is projected to generate roughly 2,500 jobs. SAEL Solar already has over 6.7 GW of solar projects in India, with some operational and others under construction. They also have an existing 3.5 GW of TOPCon solar module production capacity. The plant will use photovoltaic technology to transform sunlight directly into electricity, utilizing silicon wafers with specific coatings and electrodes.
