Changes are underway in the structure of the three-tier panchayats in Uttar Pradesh due to the expansion of urban boundaries and the formation of new urban bodies over the past five years. After delimitation, the number of Zilla Panchayat wards will decrease from 3,050 to 3,011. Similarly, the wards of Kshetra Panchayat members (BDC) will decrease from 75,845 to 74,345. The number of Gram Panchayat wards will also decrease by 4,608, reducing the total from 7,32,643 to 7,28,035. The work of reorganizing Gram Panchayats has been completed. Initially, there were 58,189 Gram Panchayats in the state, which have now been reduced to 57,694.
