The Ministry of Railways is focused on improving passenger convenience through a series of ticketing system upgrades. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has overseen these changes, emphasizing the need for a smarter, more transparent, and user-friendly system. One major change involves the timing of reservation chart preparation. The revised plan aims to prepare the charts earlier, specifically eight hours before the train’s departure, offering more certainty to passengers. Trains departing before 2 PM will have their charts ready the day before. This move will enable waitlisted passengers to make informed decisions. In addition, the Passenger Reservation System (PRS) is being technically upgraded, with CRIS leading the implementation. The new PRS will have a significantly higher capacity, handling ten times more load, and enabling over 1.5 lakh bookings per minute. The system will feature a multilingual interface and enhanced usability, providing passengers with more control. For Tatkal bookings, enhanced security measures are planned. Starting July 1, 2025, authentication via Aadhaar or other valid government IDs, combined with OTP verification, will be required to book Tatkal tickets through the IRCTC platform.
