Haridwar hosted the closing ceremony of ‘Swarnim 70 Years,’ an event organized by the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh Uttarakhand, with Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in attendance. The Chief Minister was greeted by the Mazdoor Sangh’s officials and youth. Dhami inaugurated the program with the traditional lighting of a lamp, with a large gathering of youth also present. He also engaged in the youth worker conference.
This event follows Uttarakhand’s recent landmark decision to become the first state in India to implement a Yoga Policy, building upon its earlier adoption of the Uniform Civil Code. The state cabinet, led by Pushkar Singh Dhami, approved the Yoga Policy, intending to position Uttarakhand as a leading center for yoga and wellness. The policy includes provisions for subsidies of up to Rs 20 lakh for developing yoga and meditation centers, and grants up to Rs 10 lakh for research in yoga, meditation, and naturopathy. The government aims to establish five new yoga hubs by 2030 and ensure yoga services are available in all AYUSH Health and Wellness Centers by March 2026.
During the event, the Chief Minister planted an apple tree as part of the ‘Ek Vriksha Yoga ke Naam’ program. He also announced plans for Spiritual Economic Zones in both Garhwal and Kumaon divisions to promote Ayurvedic and Naturopathy, Yoga, and Spiritual Tourism. Plans are underway to establish two new towns in the state’s hilly regions, designed to highlight the state’s unique identity on the global stage as a hub for Yoga, Ayurveda, and Spirituality.
