In a recent update, Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi reported significant progress in identifying victims of the Air India plane crash. DNA samples from 125 victims have been matched, and 83 bodies have been handed over to their families. The families of 124 deceased individuals have also been notified. Sanghavi inspected the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar, where DNA testing is ongoing. The testing is being handled by FSL and National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) teams. Sanghavi acknowledged the dedicated efforts of the teams working tirelessly. By 10:58 pm, 131 DNA matches had been completed, with additional certificates pending for the Civil Hospital. Police and FSL officials have been present to supervise the process. Teams worked continuously for three days to match DNA samples and return the remains promptly. The Gujarat government has collaborated with the Civil Hospital to ensure smooth communication with families. Dr. Rakesh Joshi of Ahmedabad Civil Hospital reported that DNA verification is complete for 119 individuals, with 14 more bodies to be released. The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, en route to London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on June 12, causing 241 fatalities, including former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.
