In response to the thousands of road accidents occurring daily, the government has introduced a new scheme to cover medical expenses for victims. The ‘Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025’ offers cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh for those injured in accidents involving motor vehicles. This provision is applicable for seven days following the accident and can be utilized at government-approved hospitals nationwide. The aim is to provide immediate medical assistance and improve the chances of survival for accident victims. Although not part of the Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, the scheme will be operated using the National Health Authority (NHA) IT platform, promising a faster, online, and paperless process. The government anticipates this scheme will offer financial stability and prompt medical care to those in need during emergencies. The cost of treatment will be covered by the insurance company if the vehicle is insured; otherwise, the central government will bear the expenses, allocating a budget of ₹272 crore for uninsured cases in 2025-26.
