An incident in Nagpur, Maharashtra, has resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old army officer, Harshpal Mahadev Waghmare, following a car crash that injured an estimated 25 to 30 people. Waghmare, who is part of the Indian Army and was on leave from Assam, allegedly drove his vehicle into a crowd while intoxicated. The incident took place around 8:30 pm on Sunday as Waghmare was traveling towards Hamlapuri via Durga Chowk. In the Nagardhan area, he lost control of his car due to high speed, leading to the collision with pedestrians. The vehicle subsequently overturned and came to rest in a roadside drain. A video from the scene depicts locals removing Waghmare from the vehicle and subsequently attacking him. The officer sustained visible injuries. Police from Ramtek responded to the scene, took Waghmare into custody, and brought him to a hospital. A medical examination will be performed to verify alcohol consumption.
