The monsoon is set to bring heavy rainfall to various parts of India on July 21, as per the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Several states are under a heavy rainfall alert. The monsoon trough, currently positioned over west Rajasthan, extends through multiple regions, influencing the weather across northern India and potentially easing the heat.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh are likely to experience isolated heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall is also expected in Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, West Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. The western region, including Konkan, Goa, and Maharashtra, is bracing for heavy rain, with Marathwada also under a heavy shower alert.
South India, including Kerala, Mahe, Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, faces prospects of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Bengaluru, Kolar, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Kodagu, Hassan, Mysuru, Chamarajanagara and Tumakuru districts are expected to be significantly affected.
Strong surface winds are anticipated across Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, and Telangana. The southwest monsoon is normal in Karnataka. In the east and central parts of India, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Sikkim, and Bihar are also expected to experience heavy rainfall.
The northeastern states, including Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, are likely to receive heavy rainfall, with thunderstorms predicted across the area. Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will also have rainfall. The IMD anticipates light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and lightning in the northeast over the next week. An orange alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Andhra Pradesh.
Delhi-NCR will see increased rainfall this week. Very light rain is forecast for Delhi on Monday with overcast conditions expected throughout the day.
