The Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sachet’ embarked on a four-day visit to Mombasa, a historic port city in Kenya, on Wednesday, September 17th. The visit aims to bolster maritime cooperation between India and Kenya and to advance their shared commitment to secure seas.
During the visit, the Indian Coast Guard and the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) will conduct a series of activities. These include joint drills, capacity-building initiatives, pollution control demonstrations, sporting events, and joint yoga sessions. The goal is to deepen mutual understanding and cooperation between the two nations, ultimately strengthening their relationship.
The navies of both countries will engage in joint exercises. To conclude the visit, a Passage Exercise (PASSEX) will be held at sea, providing an opportunity for both nations’ forces to collaborate and refine their operational readiness. The ‘Sachet’s’ presence in Mombasa underscores the growing ties between India and Kenya and their shared focus on maritime security and cooperation.
This visit aligns with India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policy, which sees India partnering with nations in the Indian Ocean and Africa to enhance maritime security, protect trade, and promote the blue economy.
