The electoral battle for Bihar in 2025 has officially commenced, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi launching the campaign with a strong endorsement of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The state anticipates a fierce contest between the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and the opposition Mahagathbandhan. The Nitish Kumar-led NDA is seeking to maintain its grip on power in the state.
During a public gathering in Samastipur, PM Modi conveyed his confidence in the NDA’s return to power. He pointed to October 2005 as a turning point, marking the end of ‘Jungle Raj’ when Nitish Kumar assumed leadership. Modi elaborated on the past, criticizing the decade-long rule of the Congress-RJD alliance and alleging they actively obstructed Nitish Kumar and caused hardship to the citizens of Bihar. He specifically accused the RJD of retaliating against voters who supported Nitish Kumar.
“They also used to threaten the Congress, saying they would withdraw support from the government if it agreed to anything that Nitish Kumar or the NDA-BJP wanted,” PM Modi revealed, further illustrating the alleged political tensions of the past.
Showing unwavering belief in Nitish Kumar and the Janta Dal (United), PM Modi projected an unprecedented victory for the NDA in the upcoming elections. “This time, under the leadership of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, NDA will break all its previous records of victory. Bihar will give NDA its biggest ever mandate,” he assured the attendees.
Paying homage to the revered socialist leader Karpoori Thakur, PM Modi described him as a significant inspiration for his government’s ethos. Samastipur, a region with a strong RJD presence since 2010, was a key location for the Prime Minister’s campaign launch. The NDA consists of the BJP, JD(U), LJP(Ram Vilas), HAM(S), and RLM. The Mahagathbandhan includes RJD, Congress, CPI-ML, CPI, CPM, and VIP. Notably, Jan Suraaj has declared its intent to contest every seat in the state.
