Following a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin in Alaska to address the conflict in Ukraine, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held discussions with Putin. The talks, which took place on Monday, saw Modi reaffirming India’s position on the war and calling for a peaceful resolution. The Prime Minister also indicated India’s support for such efforts. Discussions extended to bilateral cooperation, and the leaders agreed to maintain regular contact. Modi subsequently thanked Putin on social media for sharing details about his recent meeting with Trump in Alaska. Putin described his meeting with Trump as ‘timely’ and ‘very useful’, noting the opportunity to reiterate his position on the conflict. Meanwhile, Trump described the meeting as ‘very productive’ but was hesitant to provide details, pressuring Ukraine to accept Russia’s ceasefire conditions. The phone call between Putin and Modi preceded Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s meeting with Donald Trump at the White House, which will include support from Germany’s Friedrich Merz and France’s Emmanuel Macron.
