During the coverage of the ‘Zinnia Flower Festival’ or ‘Cherry Blossom Festival’ in Laii village, Senapati district, Manipur, a journalist from a Nagaland-based TV channel was shot by unidentified assailants. The incident took place around 4 pm. The victim, identified as Deep Saikia, received gunshot wounds to his right leg and below his armpit. He was immediately taken to Senapati District Hospital and later moved to Nagaland for better care. Medical staff at the hospital have indicated that Saikia is out of danger. Manipur police have initiated an investigation, registering an FIR, and have recovered the weapon believed to have been used in the attack, a pressurized air rifle. Law enforcement has identified the person believed to be responsible and has dispatched a team to make an arrest. The reasons for the attack are currently under investigation.
