In a significant ruling on July 31, 2025, the NIA court acquitted all defendants in the 2008 Malegaon blast case, including Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt. Col. Purohit, after a 17-year legal proceeding. Sadhvi Pragya, a former BJP MP, reacted to the verdict by stating, “Bhagwa has won,” indicating her belief in the victory of Hindutva. She described how the case had adversely affected her life, asserting that it was a deliberate attempt to tarnish the image of the ‘Bhagwa’.
She emphasized that her arrest and subsequent torture had a devastating impact on her life, leading to significant suffering. Sadhvi Pragya, reflecting on her experience, asserted that she was falsely accused and felt isolated throughout the legal process. She proclaimed, “They defamed Bhagwa through a conspiracy. Today, Bhagwa has won, and Hindutva has won, and God will punish those who are guilty.” The court also announced financial compensation for the victims, with Rs 2 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured. Despite the prosecution’s evidence of the Malegaon blast, the court found insufficient evidence linking the bomb to the motorcycle. Medical records were also found to have been manipulated, and the number of injured was corrected.
