Following the tragic deaths of several children in Chhindwara, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly due to a cough syrup, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has imposed a ban on the implicated product, Coldrif. The majority of the victims were young children, under the age of five. The Chief Minister expressed deep sorrow over the incident and announced a complete ban on the syrup’s sale throughout Madhya Pradesh. The ban extends to other products manufactured by the same company.
The cough syrup is linked to illnesses among children in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan, resulting in the deaths of 12 children. The Madhya Pradesh government initiated an investigation into the syrup responsible for these health issues.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav addressed the public on social media, expressing his profound sadness regarding the deaths in Chhindwara linked to Coldrif. He confirmed the ban on its sale across the state and the impending ban on other products from the same manufacturer. The cough syrup was produced in a factory located in Kanchipuram. Upon learning of the situation, the state government sought an investigation from the Tamil Nadu government. The investigation report was received, prompting immediate and decisive action. Local-level investigations were already underway, and a state-level team has been formed to further probe the matter, with the commitment that no one responsible will escape accountability.
Minister Vishwas Sarang Singh provided further details, stating that the ban was enforced under the directive of Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav. The swift action followed the investigation’s findings. He also clarified that no medication that could potentially harm patients will be allowed for sale in Madhya Pradesh, and strict measures will be taken against those found culpable in this case.
