A search operation in Kulgam on Monday resulted in an exchange of fire between security forces and terrorists, leading to the death of one militant. The operation is part of an ongoing effort to eradicate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter took place in the Guddar forest area. A JCO from the army was reportedly injured during the encounter. He was approaching a suspected hideout when he came under fire. The exact number of terrorists present is still under investigation. The search operation commenced following intelligence regarding the presence of militants. A joint team comprising the police, the Army’s 9 RR, and the CRPF initiated the search. As the forces approached the suspected location, the militants opened fire, prompting a response from the security personnel. This led to a full-fledged encounter. Simultaneously, authorities announced the arrest of a Pakistani infiltrator along the International Border in the R.S. Pura sector. The BSF apprehended Siraj Khan, a Pakistani national from Sargodha, Punjab. He was intercepted at the Octroi post and, after being challenged and fired upon, was arrested near the border fence. Pakistani currency was recovered from him, and he is currently being questioned to determine the motive behind his attempted infiltration.
