Following the birth of a child to a minor in Jharkhand’s Khunti district, officials have pledged to bolster their efforts in raising awareness against early marriage and its associated risks. The 14-year-old girl was living with a 16-year-old boy in a live-in arrangement that was permitted by her parents and aligned with local tribal traditions. The District Child Protection Officer reported that the girl delivered a baby girl at a hospital in Khunti. To address this issue, the official highlighted the plan to intensify awareness campaigns within the 86 gram panchayats of Khunti, working alongside NGOs and civil society groups. The focus will be on educating communities and young people about the health, emotional, educational, and social implications of early pregnancy, hoping to prevent future occurrences among the youth.
