Following the alleged gang rape of a junior college student near Kinnikambla in Gurupura Kaikamba, Mangaluru police have arrested seven individuals. Investigations revealed that the accused also filmed the assault and distributed the footage.
The victim had reportedly established contact with an individual named Karthik, one of the suspects, on Instagram around two months before the incident, leading to an online relationship.
According to police reports, Karthik allegedly convinced the minor to join him on his scooter on June 29, luring her with the promise of lunch at a hotel in Valachil. He then brought her to the woods near Adyar Falls. There, he is alleged to have sexually assaulted her, and one of his friends also participated in the assault. The primary suspect recorded the act and shared the video with his contacts.
The arrested individuals are Karthik, Rakesh Saldana, Jeevan, Sandeep, Rakshith, Shravan, and Suresh. The police stated that the other five were arrested for assisting in the distribution of the video.
A legal case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology Act. The accused have been placed in judicial custody.
