A key breakfast meeting took place Tuesday between Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar at the latter’s home, amidst persistent rumors of a power struggle for the top post. While both leaders have publicly stated their commitment to the Congress party’s high command’s directive, political observers remain keen on any signs of friction.
Deputy CM Shivakumar, alongside his brother and former MP D.K. Suresh, hosted Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for the meal. Post-meeting, Siddaramaiah projected an image of solidarity, telling reporters, “There are no differences. D.K. Shivakumar and I are united. We are running the government. In the future also, we will run the government unitedly.” This appears to be a direct response to ongoing internal party speculation.
Home Minister G. Parameshwara also weighed in on the situation, acknowledging that individuals have varied ambitions. He described the latest meeting as a “good thing” and called for “peaceful settlement,” highlighting that the leaders are meeting for the second time as advised by the party’s central leadership. Parameshwara suggested that these meetings are a natural, reciprocal process to ensure smooth governance.
The meeting on Tuesday is the second significant interaction between the two leaders in recent days, following a breakfast session on November 29th at the Chief Minister’s residence. That prior meeting was publicly framed as a productive discussion on governance and future plans, though it was widely interpreted as an attempt to manage internal party dynamics stemming from the Chief Minister’s position.
