Amidst intensifying speculation about potential leadership changes in Karnataka and the fallout from a leaked video featuring Congress MLA BR Patil, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has made a decisive statement, confirming his intention to remain in office for the duration of his term. The leaked phone call, reportedly involving Patil, has added fuel to the existing rumors of internal conflicts within the state’s Congress unit. Patil’s statements included potentially damaging information about Siddaramaiah, which has sparked considerable political discussion.
In contrast to these claims, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has publicly affirmed the party’s unity, denying any internal factions. Despite this, Patil’s remarks have contradicted the official narrative. Siddaramaiah, when asked if he will serve a complete five-year term, responded emphatically, “Yes, I will. Why do you have a doubt?”
Siddaramaiah further asserted that his government is steadfast and will complete its term, branding allegations as “lies.” He also clarified that a recent cabinet meeting in Bengaluru was part of a series of divisional meetings planned throughout Karnataka. These meetings are intended to enhance governance across different regions.
The controversy was further amplified by a video capturing Patil’s remarks during a visit to Mandya. In the video, Patil is heard suggesting that Siddaramaiah’s appointment as Chief Minister was largely due to good fortune. Patil also claimed that he had played a pivotal role in introducing Siddaramaiah to CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi. Patil’s statement, “Siddaramaiah hit a lottery. I was the one who introduced him to Sonia Gandhi. His fortunes were good and he became the Chief Minister,” has added fuel to the controversy.
The situation was preceded by Minister KN Rajanna’s comments about the proliferation of multiple power centers within the state Congress, which sparked initial controversy. Rajanna suggested there were growing internal tensions within the party. Although Siddaramaiah initially dismissed Rajanna’s remarks and insisted there were no internal conflicts, the recent developments have led to increased scrutiny.
