In a significant move, India has elevated its Technical Mission in Kabul to the status of the Embassy of India in Afghanistan. This immediate upgrade underscores India’s dedication to enhancing its engagement and cooperation with Afghanistan across a spectrum of mutual interests.
The Ministry of External Affairs articulated that this decision represents a clear intent to deepen the partnership. The embassy’s enhanced role will facilitate India’s ongoing support for Afghanistan’s comprehensive development, humanitarian assistance, and crucial capacity-building programs, reflecting the needs and ambitions of the Afghan populace.
This diplomatic elevation occurred shortly after External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with Afghan Foreign Minister Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi in New Delhi. Their extensive discussions covered shared regional issues and bilateral concerns, underscoring the enduring cultural and historical connections between the two nations.
Minister Jaishankar emphasized India’s steadfast commitment to Afghanistan’s sovereignty and stability, stating that the move to an embassy status is a testament to this commitment and will foster closer ties for mutual benefit and regional resilience.
